What politician doesn't love the middle class?
Many more than you'd think, according to the Drum Major Institute for Public Policy, a progressive think tank. In a recent analysis of 16 votes cast on 11 bills and resolutions on issues ranging from the minimum wage to the Central American Free Trade Agreement, the group gave parties in both the House and Senate failing marks.
While Republicans generally voted against the middle class at much higher rates, the think tank's researchers pointedly noted that support from Democrats "dissolved when powerful industries lobbied for legislation that would increase their profits at the expense of the middle class" on such issues as energy policy, bankruptcy, and tort reform.
